Cherry Hill Park ~~Washington DC

Although this campground was the most expensive we have utilized, it was worth it for the proximity to the city, the cleanest showers ever, the 1 hour sightseeing info meeting, the allowance to let us leave our RV in the overflow area while we headed to DC for 2 days, and the wifi accessibility anywhere in the park!  The 7 hours of yipping dogs in the RV next to us almost did us in, but we triumphed – as we realized that it was our payback for Bo (our dog) annoying the neighbors with his constant barking for Bill……

We left the park at 6:15 on the metro bus, which dropped us off at the metro station to catch a subway into the city.  You may have wanted to be a bug on the wall as we attempted to “load” our Senior Pass cards before boarding. I think we set a record for the most times canceling out a transaction; perseverance paid off and we finally boarded, going the correct direction!

We met some friendly folks from LA, from Dallas, and from IN as we stood in line for 2.5 hours at the recently completed African American Museum (Smithsonian) in order to get day passes.  The online tickets are now booked through March, so we counted it a privilege to be the recipients of overflow tickets yesterday.

Our feelings as we worked through 4 floors of the 6:  sadness, empathy, unbelief, disgust, anger, and finally triumph & joy as we realized that these are a people who looked to God to find the endurance and strength to overcome.  That spiritual that was sung during the protests in the 60’s was the TRUTH that kept them going.

The Halocaust Museum was also disturbing and heart-rending.  God’s chosen people hunted down and brutally murdered, by a “leader” who led his country astray.  And - by people like us who followed --and didn't stand for truth.  It will be exciting to see how this story ends when we reach heaven and meet those believers who were courageous enough to help their neighbors and friends, and did not turn on them.

Jews torn away from their small village
where their families had lived for over 900 years.
Excellent exhibit.

  1. Laughing at the thought of you two trying to purchase your tickets!! I've been there when traveling as well and all the locals are getting annoyed with you!
